Tax Tips:
- the hours of frustration you spend doing your own bookkeeping isn’t a tax deduction, outsourcing your bookkeeping is.
- your pets are not deductible as dependants (although I thing they should be)
- a desk in your laundry room does not count as a home office. Revenue Canada has regulations on what constitutes an office. It must be a seperate room with a door and the room must be used exclusively for business (however you can play the occasional game on your computer and get away with it).
- to avoid penalties and interest, always file your T4′s, GST and taxes on time. Even if you have to amend later, it won’t cost you extra (of course if you like to donate to the government, then by all means take your time).
